Bible Study #4
The Plan of Salvation
1. How many men were lost and in need of salvation?
(Romans 3:23) For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…
2. When was man’s redemption decided?
(1 Peter 1:18-20) Knowing that you were redeemed from your vain way of life, which you received from your fathers, not with corruptible things, like gold or silver, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, foreordained before the foundation of the world, but manifested in these last times for the sake of you.
3. How did God reveal from the beginning the coming of a savior?
(Genesis 3:15) And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; this one shall wound you on the head, and you on the heel.
(Genesis 3:21) And the Lord God made tunics of skin for the man and his wife, and clothed them.
4. In what way did God show His love to lost man?
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He has given His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life
Romans 5:6-8 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God shows His love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
5. According to the law, by doing what can a man have righteousness, be righteous, and enjoy God’s salvation?
Deuteronomy 6:24, 25And the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is this day. Then it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to observe all these commandments before the Lord our God, as He has commanded us.
6. Why does the law declare all men guilty and cursed?
Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse, for it is written: Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.7. If the law demanded righteousness and perfect obedience to all the divine commandments for the sinner to be considered righteous and saved before God, could man offer God that flawless purity as a condition for being justified?
(Job 15:14-16) What is man, that he could be clean? And he who is born of a woman, that he could be righteous? Behold, He puts no trust in His saints, and even the heavens are not clean in His sight; how much less man, who is abominable and filthy, who drinks iniquity like water?
(Job 25:4-6) How then can man be righteous before God? Or how can he be clean who is born of woman? Behold, even the moon does not shine, and the stars are not pure in His sight; how much less man, who is a worm, and the son of man, also a worm?
8. Because man had offended divine justice, the law demanded that the substitute for the human being had to possess all the qualities of perfection. What does the Scripture say about the One who took our place?
(Hebrews 7:25-28) Therefore He is also able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For such a High Priest was fitting for us: holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and higher than the heavens; who does not need, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices daily, first for His own sins and then for the people’s; for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son, made perfect forever.
9. How did God manage to satisfy His justice and at the same time cause the unrighteous to be declared righteous?
(2 Corinthians 5:21) For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
(1 Peter 3:18) For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.
10. Who has been the only man who has lived in perfect obedience and never sinned, not even in a thought?
Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weakness, but one who was tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
1 Peter 1:18-19 Knowing that you were redeemed from your vain way of life, which you received from your fathers, not with corruptible things, like gold or silver, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot…
11. How sufficient was the offering of Christ’s body to make us perfect in the eyes of a holy God?
Hebrews 10:10-14 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but Christ, having offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool; for by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
12. Can anyone cast doubts on our justification or accuse us before God?
Romans 8:32-34 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
13. What have been the benefits of the grace that Christ won on our behalf through His vicarious death?
Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…
Romans 9-11 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
14. What was the exclamation of the apostle Saint Paul when he thought of God’s goodness toward us?
2 Corinthians 9:15 “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”
